Over the Hedge over 32.5 million <3.8/2> WSEX

A lot of juice to lay, but family films typically do well during May. In the last three years, Finding Nemo, Shrek 2 and Madagascar all did very well in the month of May, with the lowest opening at 47.2 million over the weekend. Even though Over the Hedge has to contend with Da Vinci Code, they are two different movies competing for two different audiences, so Over the Hedge should still find an audience. Also, with Over the Hedge opening in a mammoth amount of theaters (4,000+) and getting mostly positive reviews, that should also bode well for the family film. Good luck all!

*The line for Da Vinci Code is too close to call as I think that movie will still do a ton of business but with both of the previous tentpole May movies opening lesser than expected, I am staying away. I could see that movie opening north of its line of 72.5 million, but with the negative reviews piling up, that could detract from its audience as witnessed with last weeks Poseidon. Not taking a chance either way.

Da Vinci Code will be front loaded... but will die down on Saturday as the movie is LONG and BORING. It will have terrible word of mouth.

Under 72.5 -140

55 m - 72 m +115 at Intertops.

Variety says it's going to be in the 60's and Box Office Guru is predicting 60 million.

Over hyped... just like King Kong was.
